Corrosion Remediation & Refurbishment — Imjin Barracks
Introduction
During pre-start investigation at 5734 Imjin Barracks, extensive corrosion was identified on the internal water outlet nipples and the central roof support pole of the water storage structure. These issues posed a long-term threat to system integrity, operational reliability and overall structural safety.
Our Solution
UCL Ltd carried out a full refurbishment programme designed to restore the tank's structural integrity and extend its service life. Works included removal and replacement of corroded water outlet nipples, followed by specialist coating application, installation of a new central roof support pole, and re-installation of suction pipes to their original layout. Internal wall surfaces were re-coated using a high-performance protective lining system, and a new cementitious fillet was formed at the base junctions, internally and externally, then fully coated for long-term protection.
Key Benefits
- Elimination of corrosion risks at critical connection points
- Improved structural stability with a new central support pole
- Long-term waterproofing and chemical resistance
- Enhanced internal hygiene through new wall coatings
- Durable base-to-wall transition using coated cementitious fillets
Conclusion
The project was delivered efficiently, with full corrosion protection reinstated and key structural components renewed. UCL Ltd's technical approach ensures the tank will remain operationally sound for years to come, with minimal future maintenance required.
