Reservoir Roof Waterproof Membrane — 750 sqm Polyurea Installation
Introduction
As part of a water utility's ongoing asset refurbishment policy, UCL was contracted to seal a 750m² concrete reservoir roof. The primary objective was to prevent water ingress and external contaminants from penetrating the porous concrete slab and compromising the integrity of the potable water storage tank directly beneath it.
Our Solution
To address the vulnerability of the porous concrete structure, UCL utilised specialist plural-component spray equipment to apply a high-performance pure polyurea membrane across the 750m² roof area. This technical application technique ensures an entirely seamless waterproof barrier, completely isolating the structure from environmental factors. Polyurea's rapid curing profile allows the material to set within seconds of application. This fast-drying capability enabled the engineering team to coat the expansive surface area rapidly and efficiently, minimising asset downtime significantly compared to traditional waterproofing systems and providing the client with a durable, cost-effective and robust barrier protecting the drinking water supply.
Key Benefits
- Seamless protection — elastomeric membrane eliminates joints, overlaps and traditional weak points to mitigate the risk of localised failure
- Rapid return to service — curing within seconds ensures minimal asset downtime and accelerated project delivery
- Total impermeability — prevents surface water and external contaminants from compromising the potable water supply below
- Substrate adhesion — excellent bonding capability to porous concrete surfaces, providing long-term structural preservation
- Application efficiency — high-volume output via specialist plural-component spray machinery ensures cost-effective coverage of large surface areas
Conclusion
By deploying advanced spray technology and engineering expertise, UCL delivered an efficient, durable waterproofing solution. The project successfully secured the reservoir infrastructure, ensuring the long-term integrity and safety of the utility company's potable water asset with minimal operational disruption.
