Septic Tank Renovation
Introduction
A septic tank required full renovation to restore structural integrity and provide a watertight barrier with a minimum 10-year service life. Active groundwater infiltration through the tank walls presented an additional challenge that had to be resolved prior to any coating application.
Our Solution
The tank was initially cleaned by high-pressure jetting, followed by wet abrasive blasting to remove all weak substrate and expose a sound surface capable of achieving full coating adhesion. Active infiltration points were treated using a water stop injection system to arrest groundwater ingress during the coating works. The substrate was then treated with an acid etch to neutralise the surface, followed by an anti-microbial wash to eliminate bacteria that could compromise bond integrity. The tank was finished with a 6mm application of Ultracoat pure epoxy coating system, applied by spray to produce a continuous, seamless membrane across all internal surfaces.
Key Benefits
- Watertight barrier designed for a minimum 10-year service life
- Active groundwater infiltration fully arrested prior to coating
- Anti-microbial pre-treatment eliminated biological contamination risk
- 6mm Ultracoat pure epoxy provides robust chemical and mechanical resistance
- Tank returned to service within three days — minimal operational downtime
Conclusion
The tank was fully restored and returned to service within three days. This project demonstrates UCL Ltd's capability to manage complex pre-treatment challenges and deliver durable epoxy lining solutions to wastewater assets under difficult site conditions.
