Waste Handling Facility — Manhole and Chamber Lining
Introduction
A waste handling facility required internal refurbishment of a manhole and chamber structure suffering from chemical attack and active water infiltration. Long-term durability, chemical resistance and water-tight integrity were critical for continued safe operation within the aggressive waste environment.
Our Solution
UCL Ltd carried out full surface preparation and relining of the concrete manhole and chamber structure. The existing substrate was cleaned and resurfaced using polymer-modified cementitious materials to create a uniform, sound base ahead of coating. The structure was then lined with Raven 405, a high-build epoxy system applied at 3mm thickness in a single application, selected for its long-term chemical resistance and durability in aggressive environments. Application was carried out using UCL's Graco XM70 variable-ratio, lorry-mounted spray system, delivering accurately mixed, high-specification material at controlled pressures — essential for achieving consistent film thickness and bond quality within confined, complex geometries.
Key Benefits
- Arrested chemical deterioration and sealed active water infiltration
- Durable 3mm epoxy lining applied in a single pass
- High chemical resistance suited to aggressive waste environments
- Uniform application achieved using precision Graco XM70 spray equipment
- Extended service life with reduced need for future intervention
- Rapid turnaround with minimal operational disruption
Conclusion
This manhole and chamber lining demonstrates UCL's capability to deliver high-performance protective systems in aggressive industrial environments. With specialist spray equipment and technical application expertise, UCL delivers consistent, high-integrity coatings for demanding waste and chemical facilities.
